Engineering Challenge - Rescue

Task

Build a tracked vehicle that is able to climb over obstacles of fixed height.

Rules

• Only one RCX can be used per vehicle, and it must be attached to the vehicle.
• One or more motors can be used.
• Any gear or wheel combination can be used.
• Vehicles must be tracked, but can also have wheels or another locomotion method to support this.
• Human intervention is not permitted during the trial.

Trials

Your vehicle will be expected to go over one or more wooden obstacles, each 1 cm to 5 cm high.

Report

Write a brief report which must include the following:

• How many of the obstacles your vehicle successfully climbed.
• A diagram or photo showing the construction of the vehicle.
• A diagram of the gear configuration used.
• Labels showing the number of teeth on each gear, where the motor and wheel attach.
• A description the gear configuration.

Also answer these specific questions:

• Why did this configuration work so well?
• Could the design have been improved?
